Alvarion brings out WiMAX platform

Alvarion launched its WiMAX platform, BreezeMAX, which is based on the IEEE 802.16/ETSI HiperMAN standards and WiMAX Forum profiles. It is shipping its first release of the BreezeMAX 3500 to impatient customers and is taking orders for deliveries in Q3 2004 and beyond. Although certification by WiMAX will not happen until the end of this year and the Intel chip will not be finished until the second half of 2004, Alvarion is shipping anyway to those who can’t wait.

I know there are many who can’t wait because I get emails weekly from people asking me to recommend WiMAX equipment and please RIGHT AWAY! The funny thing is that even when I tell them that WiMAX equipment is not here yet, they continue to insist upon it anyway as if I could just wave my magic wand and make it available in an instant.

According to Alvarion, the BreezeMAX product will have the Intel chip integrated into it when it is available and will be submitted to the WiMAX Forum for certification testing. One benefit to customers is that by the time it is offered generally to the market, the BreezeMAX platform will have almost a year of field experience at the time it is certified. Isn’t it wonderful that all those impatient customers act as guinea pigs for you?

The initial release of the WiMAX platform, BreezeMAX 3500, operates in the 3.5GHz frequency band, and has already successfully passed rigorous testing with operators in Europe and Asia Pacific, some of which plan to deploy the system commercially starting in Q3 2004.

I have written a number of articles that involve Alvarion’s equipment. Type the word Alvarion into the Search Box on the main page of Muniwireless to get a list of wireless broadband projects that have used their gear.
