Rio Rancho unwired

The Rio Rancho citywide wireless broadband network is finally up and running. After a few stumbles (not the fault of current wireless ISP Azulstar), residents of Rio Rancho can now sign up for Wi-Fi service. Not all areas are covered yet but Azulstar expects full coverage of the city within the next 2 months. Pricing for service starts at $19.95 per month but only if you want a pokey slow 256k connection. The top residential subscription is $39.95 and offers 1.5 Mbps down but only 300k up. The upload speed is unacceptable considering a lot of people upload photos and even video clips. The fastest you can get (business subscription) is 4 Mbps down and 500 Kbps up, again still way too slow. This one costs $79.95. You can view Azulstar’s pricing here.

Azulstar has not yet launched the mobile Wi-Fi service which is very interesting. This is still in beta test mode.

You have got to kidding if Azulstar will be in business in 1 year. They have very few paying customers. Their service is unstable even in some places it still dosen’t even work, I wonder why? By the way this can be proved. It is a fact that they even having problems paying their bills. A 5 million dollar debt is owed to it’s only investor.. Tylers dad the owner of the Michigan electrical company. Do you have the feeling of misapproation of funds from a publicly traded company! On the mobility issue it will never work properly. There is allredy another company doing the exact same wifi service in the market. The fact is still the same “You cannot run two wifi companys in the same market and make it work”. In Denver, Colorado there was 3 companys doing the same thing, they finally divided up the area just to make it work.
