Update: Corpus Christi, TX negotiating with EarthLink

Corpus Christi, the first city in the US to implement a citywide wireless broadband network with automated meter reading, is negotiating with EarthLink Municipal Networks (EMN), a division of EarthLink, Inc. to pilot a program that provides residents and businesses with retail Wi-Fi Internet service. The press release says:

The CC Digital Community Development Corporation (Corporation) was created by the City to operate and manage the City’s wireless mesh and fiber optic network. The network was built to improve public safety, utility readings, and other City services, and is scheduled to be completed this August. Excess capacity of the network is being offered, in partnership with Internet Service Providers, to other users to make digital services more accessible to citizens and to take advantage of the potential to share network costs with partners.
