Wi-Fi demand still surging

More companies are making products that will allow people to use applications such as Skype or Gizmo Project on Wi-Fi and wired broadband networks. Philips announced it will be selling a cordless phone for the home which you can use to call Skype (but you can’t take it to a Wi-Fi hotspot). Nokia has already brought out the 770 Tablet, the N91 (4GB music phone with Wi-Fi) and its line of Wi-Fi enabled mobile phones (the E Series) for true mobility and choice of networks (Wi-Fi and GSM).

I will be reviewing the N91 this weekend so stay tuned!

I have been using voip at home for a couple of years. first on a usb handset and then skype but i am fed up on not being able to add credit to it, it’s a pain in the butt. saw mobiboo in google and downloaded it – man it’s good! i have the mobiboo dashboard at the moment but i am gonna get a wifi phone from them or elsewhere and use that coz we got wireless at work. i emailed my cousin in Austin, Texas and he downloaded dashboard and we were im’ing in minutes. he really liked the fact that his kids could call their friends free, like without running his phone bill up. i called up some pals and they thought it was funky that i had a uk phone number here in Boston .. it’s a talking point. i hope they bring out a dial band phone soon though coz i dont wanna carry two .. well done Mobi-boo-boo-horray!

Andy’s comments are 100% in line with the results of a RoamAD customer survey conducted last year. See Esme’s earlier article: http://muniwireless.com/applications/692

    Martin

Just wanted to let you know there has been an interesting development with Mobiboo.

They have recently joined up with another company called Tovo – http://www.Tovo.com

They are also now offering a great phone where by its both GSM and also VOIP. You can set your preference so that when you are in a wireless network its using VOIP otherwise GSM automatically.

    Its 2 phones in one!!

Besides that its great the quality is amazing and the price of calls is next to nothing when compared to conventional land and mobile phones. Whats even better is the free service to other Mobiboo / Tovo users anywhere in the world!

I gather they will soon have texting available too!
