FON gives away wireless routers in San Francisco

If you were on Union Square in San Francisco last Friday (28 October), you would have seen three long queues of people waiting to get their FON routers. FON wants everyone to share their Wi-Fi connection — it’s their way of creating a “citywide” wireless broadband network. FON has been making deals all over Europe with ISPs and they are giving away routers there too. I don’t know how they will eventually make money and if they do, how much it will be, but giving away routers is very cool.

But like everything else, the party has to end and FON will be charging $29.95 in the US and 29 EUR in Europe for the routers.
