The City of Decatur is looking for an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that will provide customer acquisition services as well as operate and maintain a wireless network that will serve educational, residential, commercial, municipal and public safety customers within the city’s boundaries.The City of Decatur is looking for an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that will provide customer acquisition services as well as operate and maintain a wireless network that will serve educational, residential, commercial, municipal and public safety customers within the city’s boundaries.
Decatur recently received a grant from the State of Georgia’s Wireless Communities Georgia (WCG) program that will enable the City to own the network (to be designed and installed by V3 Inc.). Thus, the ISP will not be responsible for the financing or construction of the network.
Decatur is a city of 4.2 square miles (10 square kilometers) with 18,147 residents, 7760 households and 3,856 families. This equates to a household density of 1848 households per square mile. The daytime population is roughly 30,000. According to the RFP document, the price for broadband in Decatur ranges from $38 to $95 (not including the mobile 3G plans).
