Free Wi-Fi in North Carolina towns – thanks to the local newspaper

Southern Pines and Aberdeen (in North Carolina) have Wi-Fi hotzones offering free Internet access, thanks to The Pilot Broadband, a wireless ISP owned by the local paper (The Pilot).Southern Pines and Aberdeen (in North Carolina) have Wi-Fi hotzones offering free Internet access, thanks to The Pilot Broadband, a wireless ISP owned by the local paper (The Pilot). It’s unusual to find newspapers getting into municipal wireless. The only other example I know of is in Charleston, South Carolina where the local paper is an investor (through its parent company) in the network.

We are based in Kankakee Illinois and the local newspaper (Daily Journal) has partnered with the city of KAnkakee to offer free WiFi, see http://www.wifikankakee.com for details and all published articles and case studies.

    Thanks,

    Wade
