More astroturf from telco mouthpieces

Last week saw another round of Astroturf broadsides against municipal wireless from a teco-backed “research” organization. This time the attack on “Wi-Fi waste” attacked projects that were not even Wi-Fi.Last week saw another astroturf attack on municipal wireless from a telco-backed “research” organization.

Following the release last week of The Pacific Research Institute’s (PRI) report, Wi-Fi Waste: The Disaster of Municipal Communications Networks, Glenn Fleishman at Wi-Fi Networking News shredded the report, pointing out that all but a handful of the projects that the PRI examined were not W-Fi at all, that the PRI’s funding sources include telcos that have led the charge to defeat competition that these projects bring to their markets, and that the data is three years old.
