Most Connected Cities in the World: Asia takes the top 5

Dailywireless profiles the ten most connected cities in the world and, no surprise, Seoul takes the top spot. Find out if your city is among the top ten. The Dailywireless most connected cities are:

(1) Seoul
(2) Taipei
(3) Tokyo
(4) Hongkong
(5) Singapore
(6) Stockholm
(7) Various muni projects in the US: St. Cloud, Mountain View, Corpus Christi, Tempe
(8) Paris
(9) Shoreditch
(10) Silicon Valley

The criteria: cheap, high-speed access, depth of usage, and use of novel technologies. I don’t know about Silicon Valley in terms of cheap, high-speed access. Most people I know who live in the Valley are stuck paying a lot for 5 Mbps. As for the various muni projects, they win the novel use of technology award, but they need to increase their speeds. Unfortunately, wholesale bandwidth for backhaul is expensive unless the municipality owns fiber or gets it cheaply from someone else.

Stockholm is certainly up there on my list. I remember working out of Stockholm in 2000 and marveling at what people there could do with their mobile phones.
