Wi-Fi cafes become lively places to work and socialize

The San Francisco Chronicle writes about entrepreneurs working out of Wi-Fi coffeehouses in the city. The San Francisco coffeehouse is the new Palo Alto garage, says the article. A far cry from Christopher Hawthorne’s “zombie” cafe piece. First read the article I posted about Hawthorne’s critique of the LA wireless project. I think it’s a good thought piece but is way off the mark on his observation that Wi-Fi turns cafes into quiet, boring places where people just stare at screens.

Then read this article in the SF Chronicle which is more accurate. I spend a lot of time in SF and this is what I see, too.
