Malaysia deploys Wi-Fi pilot project

The city of Ipoh in Malaysia’s Perak state officially launched its Wi-Fi network this week.The city of Ipoh in Malaysia’s Perak state officially launched its Wi-Fi network this week.
The network was built by Red Snapper, a Malaysian provider of voice over Wi-Fi services, using Altai Technologies’ Wi-Fi cellular base stations.
Malaysia is building a Multi-media Super Corridor, expected to become a global ICT hub by 2010. Ipoh, the capital of Perak, is a pilot for the project. Students and minority groups will receive subsidized access to the network which provides service to about 70 percent of the city.
