According to a story on Yahoo.com, Mayor Marcelo Ebrard described the project as “the highest priority.” It will deploy wireless hotspots to service the city’s network of surveillance cameras and link schools and city offices.
This is evidently the latest in the mayor’s efforts to model his city after wealthier capitals of the world. According to the Yahoo report, Mexico City has been unable to deliver city water or fix its aging electrical grid but the city government “recently announced it would follow the lead of cities like Paris and Berlin in creating temporary artificial urban beaches for the summer. ”
