Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo goes wireless

Los Angeles’ downtown Little Tokyo district will launch a community network Thursday that will bring free Internet access to local businesses, homes and visitors.Los Angeles’ downtown Little Tokyo district will launch a community network Thursday that will bring free Internet access to local businesses, homes and visitors.

The network, which is funded by the Los Angeles’ Community Redevelopment Agency, was built by PRO 911 Systems and LTSC using the Tropos MetroMesh system .

“This important community and economic development project will provide Internet access and training to local residents and small businesses, while giving tourists and other visitors further incentive to come to Little Tokyo,” said Davis Park, Director of Community Technology Programs at the Little Tokyo Service Center.

“But our wireless network also represents an important effort in promoting digital inclusion and providing to low-income residents the telecommunications access that many of us who are connected usually take for granted.”

Description: Even as municipal wireless becomes more prevalent in communities throughout the country and around the world, more and more emphasis is being placed upon ensuring reliable connections inside the four walls. Well good luck with that Tropos hardware.
they will find out in a quick hurry its not going to do what they want unless “Little Tokyo” is exactly that, little.
not to mention the lack of any decent number of hops that you can have with their before another POP is required.
3-5 max hops before latency and throughput are thrown out the window.
