Mike Siminski, Lompoc city council member, says the article calling the Lompoc network a failure based on subscriber numbers is inaccurate because they have not even officially launched the network and have done no advertising. He adds: We won’t need 4000-plus signups as originally thought. That figure was based on total income from subscribers. There are city uses being explored. Wi-Fi meter reading - we can save our utilities $250,000 per year. (If applied to Wi-Fi, that would equate to revenue from approximately 1,500 customers).
