Altoona, Penn., seeks consultant to do network site survey and draft RFP

Altoona, Pennsylvania is looking for a vendor to perform a network site survey and draft an RFP that the city will submit to the vendor community for a citywide wireless mesh network to be used for municipal purposes. Altoona, Pennsylvania (pop. 49,000; 10 square miles) invites consultants to submit responses to its Request for Proposal (RFP) to furnish Wireless Meshed Broadband Wide Area Network Site Survey and Design Professional Services. Proposals should include pricing for analysis, site survey, design, documentation, and a final RFP which will be submitted to the vendor community for selection and implementation of a mesh Wi-Fi network. The city’s network will be used for municipal purposes (e.g. automated meter reading). The city already has a fiber optic network that connects city buildings. However, it does not own the utility poles (those are own by either Penelec, the local electric company or Verizon).
