Paraty, Brazil, pilots muni wireless for the state of Rio de Janeiro

The city of Paraty, Brazil, is test piloting a municipal WiFi network as part of a project to help officials in the state of Rio de Janeiro prepare to deploy municipal wireless broadband networks throughout Brazil.The city of Paraty, Brazil, is test piloting a municipal WiFi network as part of a project to help officials in the state of Rio de Janeiro prepare to deploy municipal wireless broadband networks throughout Brazil.

The network uses a smart antenna technology, MBW 2100 Micro and MBW 1100 Pico cellular-mesh WiFi base stations from GO Networks. The trial is being conducted by PRODERJ, Rio de Janeiro’s information technology organization .

PRODERJ is responsible for providing public internet service throughout the state. The project includes plans for a customer telecenter and tourist information kiosks that use the network.
