The grant calls for low rates of $10 per month for low-income families. The service provider, ACD.net of Lansing, Mi., is to begin immediately if the city council accepts the grant–which is expected to happen today.

The network will cover seven square miles. The deployment is happening in partnership with the area’s utility, Consumers Energy, and is expected to be complete in March. Wholesale access will be made available to other providers, as well.
