N. Hampshire makes muni wireless grants to seven communities
New Hampshire, a state which links its future to the availability of broadband Internet access, has awarded matching grants to develop seven wireless broadband projects.New Hampshire has awarded matching grants to develop seven wireless broadband projects across the state.
In announcing the grants, Gov. John Lynch cited the need “to expand broadband access throughout New Hampshire‚Äö?Ѭ?to attract new jobs to New Hampshire, we must make sure we have a 21st century infrastructure; wireless broadband access is a key component of that infrastructure.”
New Hampshire, a rural and largely mountainous state, has been at the forefront of states developing state-wide plans to promote the expansion of technology and communications. This is just the latest good news we’ve heard from them. Earlier this year, we reported on the public-private LINC initiative in New Hampshire and Vermont designed to bring broadband to rural areas of those states.
This deliberate and thoughtful planning stands in welcome contrast to the let’s-get-everything-free mentality that has stalled development of projects in cities seeking handouts from private providers. It’s good to see. I’d like to see more of it.
