A heartening update comes from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where the local Chamber of Commerce has received a grant to expand wireless service. Now it’s building out to cover the downtown and reach out to the suburbs. Since April, the number of users on the network has risen from 1400 to 2500 and the group running the project, eCoast, has partnered with Cisco and the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab to bolster the network for use as a test lab. According to a story in Seacoast Online, Cisco is donating equipment to the tune of $90,000 for the project.
