Shanghai eyes a “mega city” wireless broadband network

The Shanghai government in China, in preparation for the 2010 World Expo being held there, is exploring a plan to set up a wireless broadband network that will support high-definition video transfers and monitor traffic, security and environmental regulations.The Shanghai government in China, in preparation for the 2010 World Expo being held there, is exploring a plan to set up a wireless broadband network that will support high-definition video transfers and monitor traffic, security and environmental regulations.

The government is in talks with Cisco on a plan for deployment. Shanghai is one of six cities in China deploying municipal networks. Beijing is in the process of deploying a combined Wi-Fi and WiMAX network for the 2008 Olympics.
