Sacramento’s plans for citywide Wi-Fi are back on the drawing board. Sacramento Metro Connect LLC will launch a $1 million downtown pilot in February. The launch, which comes after numerous delays that were largely due to funding, is expected to be completed later this spring.

Philadelphia eyes life after EarthLink
Philadelphia is making contingency plans for an EarthLink bailout from the city’s metro Wi-Fi network. Terry Phillis, the city’s CIO, told ComputerWorld this week that he believed there was a 75 percent chance EarthLink would sell or abandon the network.
