About Muniwireless

Muniwireless is the authority on wide-area wireless broadband projects worldwide, including regional and municipal networks. Although we often use the word “city,” rural municipalities receive equal coverage here because they are leading the fight for affordable, fast, universal access to the Internet. We also cover the products, technologies, and standards that comprise public broadband networks, and the organizations that design, install, and maintain them.

Municipal WiFi network opens in Houston, Texas!
Goodmorning my name is Steve Milam writing to you from Bowling Green, KY. I was browsing your site for info on our wi-fi network and did not see anything. We are currently in the final phases of a 850 AP 25 sq mile project in Bowling Green. We used the Cisco 1522 for our mesh AP and could not be more satisfied with network operations/performance. The network works so well I am confused when I see all these failed projects, although most failures appear to be business model problems and not necessarily related to the technology. Our network was designed for internal City use with free public Wi-Fi in parks. The City is a current loosely debating free public wi-fi for the entire area, time will tell us this one turns out. I would be happy to share our complete story if you would like with the goal in mind of helping other Cities implement successful wireless networks. Have a nice day.
