EarthLink has notified subscribers in Philadelphia that it will discontinue its citywide wireless broadband service on June 12, 2008 (see press release). The company claims that it has failed to reach any agreement with the city for the transfer of the network either to the city or to another service provider. Shanghai is rolling out wireless broadband service in partnership with Shanghai Telecom in various areas of the city. You can access the network at Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall in Huangpu District for 85 US cents per minute (which works out to about $25 for 30 minutes, very expensive).
