One quarter of Dutch iPhone users under 25 years old

T-Mobile has released interesting statistics on the iPhone’s usage in the Netherlands since the launch of the 3G version six weeks ago:

  • 49% of iPhone customers are between 25-49 years old, 26% are between 18-24.
  • More men than women have purchased the phone.
  • The average data use in the first 5 days after the launch was 10 MB per day.
  • The most popular version of the iPhone is the black, 16 GB device.
  • The most popular subscription is the 150 voice minutes/SMS, followed by the 300.
  • Business users are three times more likely to choose the 500 voice minutes/SMS than non-business users (25% to 9%).
  • More than 10% of all iPhone users in the Netherlands are business users.

I am very surprised to see the under-25 crowd go for the iPhone. The conventional wisdom in Europe has been (and statistics have shown) that people under 25 tend to go for prepaid subscriptions. Not anymore. They’ll fork out money for a cool device with a great interface that allows them to do web browsing and other tasks they are used to doing on a computer.

It’s not surprising that only 10% of all users are business accounts. The vast majority are still on the Blackberry or some form of Windows Mobile device. We’ll see how much of the business market T-Mobile Netherlands manages to get for the iPhone in the next few months.

You can get the iPhone in the Netherlands from Apple resellers, Belcompany, Mediamarkt (similar to Best Buy), The Phone House and T-Mobile shops.
