Say goodbye to NYC Wi-Fi in the parks
WiFi Salon has announced that it is shutting down Wi-Fi service in several parks, including Central Park, because it has not found financing to continue operating the network. WiFI Salon won a contract from the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation in 2004 to wire 10 parks in four boroughs. WiFi Salon founder, Marshall Brown, says they could not find a sponsor for the network. Despite the shutdown, Brown says he will contineu to deploy free Wi-Fi but by partnering with Business Improvement Districts. He has already unwired NYC’s Union Square.
