WiMAX operator offers free Wi-Fi on Japanese high-speed trains

UQ Communications, a WiMAX operator in Japan, will be offering free Wi-Fi service in the Tokaido Shinkansen (high-speed train) starting in March 2009. The first trains to be outfitted with the service at the N700 trains between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka. From the end of March 2009, the station waiting rooms between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka will also have Wi-Fi. UQ plans to offer Wi-Fi service in other forms of public transportation in Japan.
