FCC seeks public comments on rural broadband strategy

The FCC is seeking public comments on what it should include in its rural broadband strategy report (to be submitted to Congress by 22 May 2009). All comments should be submitted by 25 March 2009. The 2008 Farm Bill directed the FCC to consult with the Department of Agriculture in developing and reporting to Congress on a comprehensive rural broadband strategy. In its report, the FCC is required to  include  recommendations for:

  • inter-agency coordination of policies, procedures, and programs;
  • coordinating short- and long-term needs assessments and solutions for “rapid build-out” of rural broadband services; and
  • identifying how specific federal programs can best respond to rural broadband needs.
