The NTIA and the RUS, two agencies given the authority to make grants for broadband projects under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, are public comments on how to administer the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) including grant selection criteria, the role of the states in the grants process, relationship of BTOP to the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) loan and grant program, the role of for-profit providers as potential grant recipients, and more. Comments are due on April 9.
They are holding meetings in Washington DC on March 16, 19, 23 and 24, 2009 (go to www.ntia.doc.gov/broadbandgrants or www.rurdev.usda.gov/index.html for more information). You can also send in comments by post and email.
