Big WiMAX win for DigitalBridge: NRTC adds funding, partnership

Looks like rural WiMax provider DigitalBridge Communications has found some new friends in the rural telco business, judging by a couple of announcements today from both Digital Bridge and the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), which represents some 1,400 rural electric and telephone utilities across 48 states.

Altitude Telecom claims WiMax is doing well in France

At a recent conference on the 2008 financial results of Altitude Telecom, CEO Jean Paul Rivière expressed confidence about Altitude’s WiMAX business im France. Most of Altitude’s revenues come from large enterprises. France launches mobile portal for senior citizens

While attending a Senior Expo and Conference in Paris in April 2009, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, French Minister for New Technologies announced the imminent launch of Proxima Mobile, a portal for accessing a large set of geo-localized information and public services through a mobile phone. Android increases share of smartphone web traffic, but iPhone still no. 1

AdMob has just released statistics for March 2009 which show that the iPhone and iPod Touch continue to dominate the number of requests generated on the AdMob network of 6000 publishers and 1000 applications around the world.

In March 2009, the iPhone generated 8 times more requests than Android (in the US). Worldwide, the iPhone and the iPod Touch generated 23 times more requests than Android. This is not surprising given that the iPhone has had a headstart. AdMob’s statistics indicate that…

EU lowers SMS and data roaming as of 1 July 2009

Starting 1 July 2009, the roaming rates charged by mobile phone operators for sending data and SMS between EU member states will drop significantly. For example, a text message sent from the Netherlands to Spain will cost no more than EUR 0.11 instead of EUR 0.28. Clearwire target of class action suit alleging false advertising

A class action lawsuit filed in Washington state alleges Clearwire misrepresented to customers that its Internet service was fast, reliable and comparable to cable Internet and DSL. The plaintiffs, who come from Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota and North Carolina, retained a Washington DC law firm, to bring the lawsuit against Clearwire for false advertising, unfair business practices and for reimbursement of early termination fees.
