Hesse: Sprint to subsidize WiMAX devices

You had to look hard through the Sprint earnings call info to find any information on WiMAX services being offered by the company, but we did find a few nuggets worth highlighting here. EU frees up airwaves for wireless broadband

The European Commission has laid out plans for a coordinated use of wireless spectrum as the move to digital TV has resulted in more spectrum available for broadband. The Commission estimates that the plan will give the economy a boost of €20 to €50 billion.

NTIA, RUS to award grants in December 2009

The NTIA and RUS have extended the review of grant applications to December 2009, one month later than earlier announced. The first round of funding of the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program and the Broadband Initiative Program has generated thousands of applications. Lawrence Strickling, Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information at NTIA, says that they need more time to review the applications and that the first grants will be announced most likely in the middle of December.

Chicago, Dallas to get WiMAX in November

If you were wondering just exactly when Clearwire was going to start selling WiMAX services in the remaining cities the provider promised would launch in 2009, wonder no more — today the company announced some more-firm plans for delivery, which include November launches for Chicago and Dallas, and a December launch for Seattle.

Meshcom to open source its mesh networking software

Meshcom Technologies is making its previously proprietary Meshcom MeshDriver software open source and now available to everybody. The software will be available through EmbedOne – the open source division of Meshcom. Meshcom also announced the future development of MeshDriver will be EmbedOne-community driven.
