Alvarion introduces 802.16e WiMAX solution for license-exempt frequency bands

Alvarion has just introduced BreezeMAX Extreme, its 802.16e WiMAX solution for license-exempt and quasi-licensed frequency bands (5 GHz outside the US and 3.65 GHz in the US). The company says that it has designed BreezeMAX Extreme to speed up the deployment of broadband infrastructure in rural areas and for particular segments (public safety, municipalities, public utilities). Lincoln (UK) citywide Wi-Fi network gets underway

Lincoln, UK has engaged AB Internet to deploy and operate a citywide Wi-Fi network that will be used by the city, the university, businesses and residents. Lincoln’s city council has already committed to buying capacity for mobile and fixed applications, including the replacement of expensive T-1 lines. Among the uses for the network are:

Alvarion wins Italy mobile WiMAX deal

Aria, the only operator in Italy with a nationwide WiMAX license, has chosen Alvarion as its equipment provider. Aria will use the 3.5 GHz frequency band in its attempt to bring mobile WiMAX service to all 21 regions in Italy. Although Italians in larger municipalities enjoy access to several broadband providers, in rural and mountainous areas such as the Dolomiti, the only option is usually dial-up service.

Alvarion, Open Range in $100 M WiMAX deal

The press release just hit the Internets — Alvarion’s mysterious $100 million WiMax gear deal is with planned rural WiMax provider Open Range Communications, and not Clearwire as previously rumored.

Dundee, Scotland replaces wired lease lines with WiMAX network

The city of Dundee, Scotland has replaced 100 wired leased lines to public buldings with a point to multipoint WiMAX network. These buildings include libraries, public schools, sports centers and council buildings. For the project, the city used Aerelink, a systems integrator, and Alvarion’s equipment.
