Two Georgia municipalities go wireless for public safety and video surveillance

Temple and Washington, two municipalities in Georgia, are deploying muni wireless networks for their police departments. Temple, which is on the border of Georgia and Alabama, is using their wireless network to deal with interstate crime and vehicle accidents. In addition to installing CCTV cameras in high-crime areas, they also installed cameras in police vehicles, which can store content for future reference. Police officers can access the network even when the cars are in motion.

Boston wireless hotzone officially launches

The city of Boston, Massachusetts is officially launching a wireless hotzone in Grove Hall/Dudley Square neighborhood (by Roxbury and Dorchester). Click here to view the coverage map.

The network is the result of a partnership among openairboston.net, Galaxy Internet (an Internet Service Provider) and BelAir Networks, an equipment vendor. Public safety at the turn of a key

A mobile wireless public safety system that promises to deliver a turnkey interoperabile solution was announced today by New Energy Technologies, a provider of in-field communications for government and municipalities. According to a press release, the NETwrkx Starter Kit uses BelAir Networks’ carrier grade wireless broadband technology ”to build a high-speed wireless network covering more than one square mile in less than an hour.”

Naval warfare center deploys high-performance Wi-Fi mesh

BelAir Networks announced today that two of its new products that include 802.11n and support for the 4.4 Ghz frequency band are being used to deliver defense applications at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Charleston (SSC Charleston).

According to a company press release, the two new products, the BelAir200D and BelAir100D Wireless Mesh Node for Defense Applications are customized for military applications and feature support for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology and other performance-enhancing features in 802.11.n.

This new round of funding was led by new investors Export Development Canada and Wellington Financial which joined current investors Comcast Interactive Capital, T-Mobile Venture Fund, Trilogy Equity Partners, Panorama Capital (formerly JPMorgan Partners), VenGrowth Capital Partners Inc., BDC Venture Capital, Ventures West Management, McLean Watson and MMV Financial.
