British Telecom (BT) reports that between April and September 2008, customers spent twice as much time on its WiFi networks as in the preceding six months. People spent more than a million minutes a day on the average on BT OpenZone and BT FON networks.

BT is not the only company reporting dramatic increases in WiFi usage. Recently, Icomera reported a 272% increase in WiFi usage on public transport.

BT is encouraging its business customers to share their Wi-Fi connections via their BT Business Total Broadband. There are about 170,000 business customers who could offer Wi-Fi for free as a courtesy to visitors to their offices.
