Clearwire running ads for Chicago service

No official announcement from the company yet, but from an advertising perspective it looks like Clearwire is getting ready to launch its service in Chicago, one of the markets Sprint had hoped to launch with its Xohm service in 2008. Checking out the Chicago Tribune home page on Jan. 1, you can “clearly” see the Clearwire ads running front and center:

Free Wi-Fi project in Sydney canceled

The New South Wales government has scrapped plans to set up free Wi-Fi hotzones in the central business district of Sydney and other NSW cities. The government looked at proposals from 15 providers but decided not to go ahead for financial reasons. Sprint WiMAX premieres in three cities

The New York Times reports a soft launch of Sprint’s WiMAX services is underway in Chicago, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. in preparation for a much larger launch later in the year.

According to the article, Sprint’s high-speed wireless Internet division, Xohm, began offering “mobile Internet business agreements for both Web portal services and WiMAX network access” on January 15.
