Icomera acquires Moovera Networks, extends product line for public transport Wi-Fi

Icomera AB is acquiring Moovera Networks, a UK company that sells wireless access points used by buses, trains and ferries to deliver Wi-Fi service to passengers. The deal makes a lot of sense because Icomera installs wireless networks in public transport for Wi-Fi access, CCTV, vehicle tracking or streaming entertainment and both companies go after the same type of customer: public transport firms.

Wi-Fi now available on Swedish buses

Swebus, a long-distance bus operator in Sweden, is now offering Wi-Fi access to its passengers. Swebus has over 80 buses and transports two million passengers every year. According to the press release, this Wi-Fi deployment is the largest in Scandinavia since it will be available in buses that go to Norway and Denmark. Arriva, a train operator in Scandinavia, is offering free Wi-Fi service to passengers traveling across Denmark, starting with the trains that run between Aarhus, Thisted and Tønder in Jutland. Arriva carries more than 7 million passengers each year.

Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries will soon be offering Wi-Fi access to passengers on ferries in the South of England running between the Isle of Wight and the mainland towns of Portsmouth and Lymington. Moovera Networks will deploy wireless broadband Internet access on the new Glasgow Flyer shuttle bus service at the Arriva Scotland West airport. Moovera Networks will deploy wireless broadband Internet access on the new Glasgow Flyer shuttle bus service at the Arriva Scotland West airport.

Eleven luxury buses that operate between the airport and Glasgow city center will be equipped with Moovera’s Moovbox M100 mobile broadband gateway to provide access at speeds of up to 1.4Mbps.
