Madrid plans 100 Mbps FTTH network

Madrid, Spain is planning to deploy a FTTH network in the metropolitan area, which they plan to finish by 2016. The cost of the deployment is 4 Billion Euros. The city will work with telecommunications operators to roll out the network which will provide up to 100 Mbps symmetrical speeds to residents. To encourage the rollout of WiMAX, Wi-Fi and LTE networks, they will also make it easier to lease space on municipal assets.

Asco, Spain launches municipal wireless network

Ascó, a town of 1600 people in the region of Catalonia, has rolled out a wireless mesh network covering 74 square kilometers. The town is best known for its nuclear power plant, as well as almond and olive groves, and vineyards. According to the service provider, Eurona, the city will use the network for municipal applications and public Internet access.

Girona, Spain builds citywide Wi-Fi network for municipal use

Girona, Spain is deploying a citywide Wi-Fi network for municipal applications. At present, the network is running in the Can Gibert del Pla and Santa Eugenia neighborhoods, but it is being expanded to cover the entire city (13 square kilometers).

The state of Catalonia, Spain, has selected Alvarion, Ltd.’s BreezeMAX technology to extend mobile wireless broadband services through the state.The state of Catalonia, Spain, has selected Alvarion, Ltd.’s BreezeMAX technology to extend mobile wireless broadband services through the state.
