San Marcos, Texas issues RFP for citywide WiFi network
San Marcos, Texas has issued a public tender seeking a partner to deploy a citywide wireless broadband network. The network will be used for Internet access and municipal applications such as automated meter reading. As announced last March 2007, the City of San Marcos (25 square miles) has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) on 1 July 2007 seeking a partner to build a wireless broadband network for public Internet access and municipal applications such as automated meter reading. that will enhance city services and bring wireless broadband access to San Marcos residents.
Bidders can download the RFP documents from www.govbids.com (click on the Texas E-Purchasing Group Link). I am waiting to get the RFP documents so I can post them here for those who just want to see what’s in them.
The Pre-Proposal conference is scheduled for July 19, 2007. The deadline for responses is August 30, 2007. To produce the RFP and manage the project, the city contracted with MetroNetIQ, an Austin-based consulting firm that works with cities to help them get metropolitan broadband projects like this started.
Award is scheduled for the November 6, 2007, City Council meeting at 7 p.m.
